KYO SHIRABE(Melody of Kyoto), steamed/pan-fried green tea by Kyoto Tea Garden, better known as Sencha, is made only from the most carefully selected "first-picked tea" grown in Uji region famous for its high quality tea among all the various brands in Japan. Sencha is the most popular tea among Japanese people. And because the tea leaves are steamed and pan-fried, it preserve the flavor and freshness. Sencha is the most relished variety among all the green tea available on the market.
First-picked tea, or shincha, comes from the first buds of the year. KYO SHIRABE is made to order, guaranteeing its fresh taste. KYO SHIRABE brings out the luxurious, delicate taste, and deep aroma that Uji tea is famous for.
KYO SHIRABE meets JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standard) requirements. Tea shipped overseas meets the standards set by each country, safety assured. The product is manufactured in an ISO9001-certified factory and subjected to rigorous quality controls.
They come in two sizes: 30-gram in colorful tins perfect for display, or in eco-friendly 100-gram bags. Commercial packagings are also available in plain bags of 500 gram, 1 kg, 2 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg and 20 kg.

The leaves can be turned into various styles of tea depending on how they are grown, when they are picked, and how they are processed, etc. Kyoto Tea Garden is proud to serve various Kyoto Uji brand, organic Japanese green tea(Gyokuro is non-organic). For tea leaves, tea bag packaging option is also available(10 kg order minimium).
KYO SHIRABE: Sencha
Sencha is the most popular tea among Japanese people. Tea leaves are steamed or pan-fried to preserve the flavor and freshness. Sencha is the most relished variety among all the green tea available on the market.
KYO HIBIKI: Gyokuro Gyokuro is known for its rich umami taste and its distinct aroma. To make Gyokuro tea, leaves are grown in the shade under reed or straw screens for approximately 20 days after the tea bush develops two to three sprouts. Since theanine will not break down if it is not exposed to light, Gyokuro is low in catechins, thereby achieving a less bitter, more delicious flavor. Its distinct aroma is referred to as a "rice-straw smell", which is similar to nori seaweed.
KYO SHIZUKU: Matcha Matcha is made from tea leaves grown in the shade for 20 days under reed or straw screens. Instead of being steamed and hand-rolled, the leaves are left to dry, and then ground into a fine powder using stone mills. It is famous as the main tea used in the tea ceremony, and is also an ingredient for sweets and cooking.
KYO NAGOMI: Genmaicha Genmaicha is made from steamed and later roasted brown rice, where another kind of tea such as Bancha or Sencha is added to the mix in equal amounts. It allows you to enjoy the toasty flavor of brown rice and the refreshing taste of Bancha or Sencha. Because it’s rather low in caffeine, it can be enjoyed both by children and adults alike.
KYO NOHOKA: Hojicha Hojicha is made by roasting Sencha, Bancha, or Kukicha over a high flame until the color of the leaves turns light brown. This creates a rich, savory aroma. Roasting the leaves evaporates the caffeine, which gives the tea a delicious scent and its refreshing, light taste.
KYO MADOKA, MIZUHO: Funmatsu Ryokucha
Funmatsucha is a powdered Japanese green tea. Unlike Matcha, the tea leaves are not grown in the shade and much less expensive than the Matcha. Often served at Japanese restraurant and also used as seasoning for sweets like cakes, chocolates, ice creams, Latte and many others.
